President's Letter

Hey Friends!

Autumn in New England has proven to be another beautiful season with lots of sunshine to reflect the brilliant red, orange and yellow the trees have displayed. Don’t miss any last glimpse of color as we move into November and take a minute to be thankful for the beautiful nature surrounding us. As we remember the autumn leaves, also take a moment to remember the HSC members that came before us who founded many of the programs that still help us and others today, such as our scholarship program and Minuteman Thrift Shop earnings passed back to the community. They bonded over lunch and activities. They started the path of connection and investment in each other and the military community. Thank you!

Today we connect over many common interests, socialize at fun monthly events, invest through volunteer teams and give back to military families and the local community thousands of dollars each year. More spouses are eligible, welcome, and participating creating a spirit of fun and caring. Together we’re better! This spirit is catching on and our community is noticing. On October 16 th the Hanscom Federal Credit Union (HFCU) Board of Directors awarded the HSC their 2008 Board of Directors Memorial Award for demonstrating this spirit. The Chairman of the Board, Paul Marotta, shared,

“This award is given annually to an organization within our field of membership that embraces the same spirit as that of our Board and as a way to reach out to our community in consonance with the credit union founding principle of People Helping People.  We believe the HSC for sure meets that criteria and we are very excited to present the HSC our award.  The award also comes with a check in the amount of $1,000.  Our Board is very proud of the work your organization accomplishes and is most appreciative of the support you provide to our annual children’s book drive.”

Members of the HSC Executive Board and Advisors received the check for $1000 on National Credit Union Day. The HFCU Board is a volunteer board that reaches out to the community helping with the Children’s Hospital of Boston and MA Coalition of the Homeless. Their children’s book drive directly supports the MA Coalition for the Homeless.

We are excited to honor each of you, the HSC members, for your dedicated and spirited contribution to the community. Some organizations that have received this award over the years include Airman Family and Readiness, the CGO’s, Sergeant’s Association, and Operation Concern. It truly is an honor. With that, I want to recognize our president, first vice and second vice from last year, and previous teams, who lead us with this spirit. Judi Parker, Tara Harbours, and Jackie Phillips, thank you for all your dedication and warm leadership over last year drawing us closer to this great charitable organization and the community at large. Together we’re better.

If you have not yet participated, there are many activity groups and volunteer teams, explained throughout the YF, that provide an avenue for you to connect and invest. Please contact one of our leaders and we’ll be happy to help you plug in.

We had an awesome time at our Masquerade Party with over 50 in attendance. If you missed it, ask others who had the most awesome witch hat, coolest mask and tastiest pie—including the story behind the winner of the tastiest pie… who showed up as a jester and who came in full costume including a walking stick and red hat. J You won’t want to miss our next fun event, Dancing under the Stars, Friday, November 14 th, 6:30 pm (That is one day earlier than previously advertised), so mark your calendar today and get details on page ?. (Hint—you don’t have to dance to have fun, but you might just want to try—it’s for beginners and groupie style. Either way, hang out with us and enjoy the party. J )

I look forward to getting to know you better as we strive to reflect the spirit of fun and caring.

Tammy
